There are many ways tragedies are handled by people.  There is one that should be an example for all.  Arthur Ashe was one of the United States’ great tennis players.  He was the first African American to win Cups in three Grand Slam titles.  He was the first black player to play on the US Davis Cup team, to win the singles title at Wimbledon, the US Open, and the Australian Open.  His achievements were numerous.  In 1988, Arthur underwent heart bypass surgery and contracted HIV/AIDS through a blood transfusion.  One of his fans asked him, “Why does God have to select you for such a bad disease?”  In answer to the question, he said, “When I was holding a Cup, I never asked ‘why me?’ And today, in pain, I should not be asking God, ‘why me?’”  Arthur Ashe died at the age of 49.

Thanks go again to Georgia Randall and Rosanna Cross for filling in last Sunday for Ken and Marla Jones.  Deena Rosado read a poem we all enjoyed.  We are so thankful for all of our folks that share their talents with us.  Anna Tucker is rounding up pictures for a GVCC pictorial directory; we ask all of the GVCC attendees to please take part in this endeavor.  Also, Mary Radtke is helping the ladies make prayer shawls, and this group meets Thursdays, at 5:30 PM, at the church.

“Am I Alone?” was the theme of Bro Tim’s message, with scripture from John 15:5.  The analogy of a bridegroom coming for His bride described the relationship between God and the Church. In the beginning, Adam and Eve enjoyed a relationship with God until sin separated them.  1 Cor 3:17 tells us the Spirit lives in us, that we are God’s Temple.  The question is, “Why does God want us?”  The answer is, “God loves us.”  We are brought together by Jesus Christ, and we are to love one another.

The Bible challenge question:  What tribe was Barnabas from? (Acts 4:36)
