Golden Valley Christian Church

For the majority of people in the United States, Christmas is their favorite holiday.  Years, and even centuries, have changed the way people celebrate this most famous day, the date set as the birthday of Jesus.  The Bible does not give us a date for His birth, and some Biblical scholars think the birth actually took place in the spring of the year.  The truth is, we do not know the actual date.  It wasn’t until the third century that December 25th was chosen.  It was actually illegal in Boston, from 1659 to 1681, to celebrate on this day.  The day finally became a legal federal holiday in 1870.  This is the time of year we remember when God Himself came to earth in the form of a baby (John 10:30).  The most important thing to remember about that baby is what He did for us.  He was willing to die on a cross so that we, His believers, could live beside Him in Heaven one day.  That is the true gift of Christmas.

It is always a joy when the youngsters of our church share their talent with the congregation.  Last Sunday morning, it was a delight to listen to Abrielle Jones and her grandmother, Marla Jones, play a piano duet of “Silent Night.”  GVCC will have a Christmas eve service at 5:30 PM.  The invitation is open for all to join us in celebrating this holy night.

Bro. Tim’s message from John 12:46 was entitled “Christ’s Gift of Light.”  At this time of year, we think of how the sky must have lit up when the angels and the heavenly host announced the birth of Jesus to the shepherds.  There are many scriptures where Jesus talked about light.  Jesus referred to himself as the light, even as He predicted His own death (John 12:35).  The Wise Men followed the light of a star to find the baby Jesus, to worship Him.  Light is more powerful than darkness, and Jesus will lead us out of darkness into the light.  We need to allow Him to do this for us (John 8:12).

The Bible challenge question:  After their exile to Egypt, why were Joseph and Mary afraid to return to Judea? (Matt 2:21-23)

Golden Valley Christian Church meets at 611 South Third Street in Clinton.  Sunday Bible classes begin at 9:30 AM; morning worship is at 10:30.  Our minister is Tim Randall (office phone #660-890-0252), and our website is www.goldenvalleycc.org.  We are happy to invite you to attend our services, where you will always receive a warm welcome.
