Golden Valley Christian Church

It is easy to see that the Christmas celebration is in full swing.  Homes are beautifully decorated, and stores are extra busy with shoppers.  A fair question to ask, “Are we celebrating for the wrong reasons?”  The reason for this happy season seems to get lost in the excitement of buying gifts and planning family reunions.  The “good news” God sent to this world, in the form of a baby boy, is first and foremost the most important thing to celebrate.  For many people, that is lost in the hustle and bustle of the holiday frenzy that takes place.  GVCC will have a Christmas eve service at 5:30 PM.  We pray the building will be full of people recognizing and praising the birth of our Lord and Redeemer.

One of the holiday joys is doing for others, and one form of that is Christmas caroling.  A large group from GVCC went caroling last Sunday night.  A small gift was left at each home.  One lady who was of German heritage was especially surprised and pleased when Victoria Gregory sang “Silent Night” in the lady’s native tongue.  After the first wave of caroling, the group returned to the church building for a luscious meal of chili, different varieties of soup, various salads, and lots of desserts.

Deena Rosado contributed to our morning service by reading a beautiful poem she had written in memory of her mother; then the recording of “If There’s a Phone in Heaven” was played.  The poem and song sparked many thoughts of our mothers.  Bro Tim’s message, with scripture from Mark 1:38-39, was entitled “The Good News” which was the story of Jesus’ teachings.  It started with the angels proclaiming the good news (Luke 2:10).  Jesus said we are to go into all the world, and the Apostle Paul tells us we need to send preachers to people.  The message will not be accepted by all people, but once we accept Jesus and are baptized, we are committed to “preach the word” (II Tim 4:2-5).

The Bible challenge question:  Who actually named Jesus? (Luke 2:21)
